Dr Frankenstein much? I love the job Elijah did on his lab. The original script actually had more panels, but then we really pared it down to give him as much room as possible. Of course, that meant I had to rewrite everything too (ugh! basically writing stories twice really slows the process down, but it's worth it!)

Yes, but to be fair not many stories in THE BOOK OF LIES end well, so really it's just par for the course :)

..but then there are the stories which end in all yay and happiness too. So I can never tell for sure :P

That's part of being a particular "evil book", right? Have good win sometimes, to not kill off all hope. When there's hope, bad ends hurt even more..

Well, it's not quite that well thought out. Some stories, like PET CROC and BASILISK IN THE HOUSE, I wrote for my niece and nephew and they had monsters so I thought I'd include them. At the time it did seem like a good idea to break up the horror stories with something lighter, but it wasn't super planned out. It was more that I had the stories and including them felt right. Then I had ideas for stories that weren't really horror but were stories I really liked and wanted to include (like BEING OTHER PEOPLE and GOD OF ALL THINGS). By then I was thinking of this webcomic in a more general way...kind of like how SANDMAN started as horror but really evolved into something different. With the recent stories (ANCIENT BEASTS, AN ACCOUNTANT'S VACATION and COURIER), I actually did those hoping to get them into a steampunk anthology. The editor didn't pick them so I figured I might as well put them here. I started posting them over the summer when I was visiting my family, none of whom are into horror, hoping it would get them to read the comic. It didn't, but they were a lot of fun to do with some great artists, so it's all good! But most of the stories will explore darker themes.

He he, I see. In that case, it's a nice side-effect ;)

Yes, I think Pet-croc, Basilisk and Accountant's vacation fit in well, because still horror themed. Courier and Ancient beasts did feel a bit out of place for me (that's it?? no nasty surprises ..?), but I enjoyed them nevertheless.

Pet-croc was something Bill Watterson *wishes* he had thought of first. buffylove / TMB found the perfect artist for that story.

Ten years? Wait. Has she been dead for ten years? How does she still look like that? Did...did they give her the taxidermy treatment?
Ugh...

No, she hasn't been dead for ten years. Hopefully the next page will make it a little more clear.
